Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted primarily by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Symptoms can range from mild, such as fever and rash, to severe, including hemorrhagic fever and shock, which can be life-threatening.

To prevent dengue fever, consider these measures:

1. Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites: Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Regularly empty, clean, or cover containers that collect rainwater, such as buckets, flower pots, and bird baths.

2. Use Mosquito Repellents: Apply insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin and clothing.

3. Wear Protective Clothing: When possible, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to reduce skin exposure.

4. Install Screens: Ensure windows and doors have screens to keep mosquitoes out of your home.

5. Use Mosquito Nets: If sleeping in areas where mosquitoes are prevalent, use mosquito nets, particularly if you’re in high-risk regions.

6. Stay Informed: Be aware of dengue outbreaks in your area and take extra precautions during these times.

By adopting these practices, you can significantly reduce your risk of contracting dengue fever.
